Evidence 6: Weebly Website – “VandeHei’s Vision Venue” Vande Hei's Vision Venue Rationale 6:This website was created for communication to all students and parents on my caseload. In the case of younger students, it would be most pertinent for parents to benefit from the website’s content, and as the students get older, they may also access the website. Primarily, the website is meant to provide updated information in regards to services, news, and support for the visually impaired to parents and students, as well as introduce myself and what I do. The website helps students because it can be incorporated into our lessons as a resource that directs them to many useful links, as well as a forum to communicate with peers and with me. As an itinerant professional, the website helps me to feel more connected with parents and students, and vice versa. It is a great way to share information in one centralized location, as well as provide an ever-present means of relaying updated information.
Knowledge: 6.K.4 The teacher recognizes the importance of nonverbal, verbal and media communication techniques. Given that I spend my day going from school district to school district, it is important to have several ways for my students and parents to contact me. I have my cell phone, e-mail, and the Weebly website for students and parents to contact me in a variety of ways, from verbal communication, to texting, to e-mailing, or contacting me via the “Contact Me” link on my website.
Skills or Performance: 6.S.5 The teacher knows how to use a variety of media communication tools, including audiovisual aids and computers, to enrich learning opportunities. Rather than simply talking to my students all of the time, it is important for them to be able to locate information on their own. By providing helpful, useful, and legitimate informational links on my website, students are able to locate information in a safe and effective manner, as well as contact me throughout any learning opportunity, if necessary, even if it is outside of our direction instruction time.
Dispositions: 6.D.2 The teacher values many ways in which people seek to communicate and encourages many modes of communication in the classroom. The Weebly website provides an opportunity for students to communicate with peers in the Forum section, to contact me in the “e-mail me” section, and explore links and websites on their own via the “student” tab. This website enhances instruction by adding to the verbal and hands-on learning experiences already provided.
